Description
Origins and characteristics: The main growth areas for the coconut palm are the Philippines, Indonesia and India. The nuts contain about 60% oil in the 1-2 cm thick endosperm (copra). This is extracted by mechanical pressing and subsequent refining. It gives a milky oil, which is solid at room temperatures. It has an almost neutral smell and taste.- Usage
- Usage: coconut oil is special because of its short-chained fatty acids and its comparatively high melting point. It is used in the foods industry but is also used as a carrier substance and a base oil for many pharmaceutical and cosmetic products.
